1. The place I chose to represent in my art is Cocoa Beach, Florida. It is important to me because my cousins live there and the beach is my favorite place.
2. The most challenging part was painting the sky. It was hard choosing colors for the sunset. I had to test out different shades of orange, yellow, and red. It was a process of trial and error, I wanted the colors to blend together to look realistic. 3. I think the water is the most successful part about my piece. I like how the water gets darker as it hits the horizon. I think the way mixed the colors turned out well and looks realistic. 4. I started by painting a line for the horizon and for the sand and water. I painted the sky blue at first and then worked on the yellow and orange in the sun set. I had to play around with mixing the colors and how much paint I used. It was challenging, so then I painted the water. I made the water closer to the sand a lighter blue and made the blue darker as the water got closer to the horizon. I painted the sand, and then went back to work on the sky. Once I made the sunset, I painted the clouds. I made sure there was texture and I added light yellow to make them look realistic.

Pen Drawing Pros - I could use the different techniques I learned about such as cross hatching, hatching, stippling, and random line. I like the contrast between light and dark on my drawing. I also like how the word "sunscreen" pops out since I used stippling in the background. Cons - I was a little nervous at first to add these techniques. I was worried the drawing would not turn out great if I added a bunch of random details. I had to be extremely careful when I went over my drawing with pen since I couldn't erase if I made a mistake. Next time I will definitely use more of the techniques to add more value. Pencil Drawing Pros - I was able to erase if I made a mistake. I went back lots of times to add and redo the flower details. I enjoyed shading, the bathing suit bottoms look realistic because of how dark I shaded the edges and how light the flowers are. Cons - It smudged easily if I moved my hand the wrong way. Since the real picture has lots of bright color, it would have been cool to see this piece with color. Charcoal Drawing Pros - I could add lots of value to my piece. I could add the holes in the sand dollar by drawing them darker and smudging them a little to contrast. I like how the background has some white spots and some dark spots. Cons - It was extremely messy and I didn't enjoy drawing with the charcoal pencil. It was difficult if I made a mistake, because I'd have to use the paper towel to fix it, then I would have to go over the background again in that specific spot. The piece also smudged easily. The warm up that helped me the most was the pen squares. I was able to try the different techniques before starting my drawing and I was able to think about what I wanted to add to my drawing beforehand. Value - the element of design that defines the lights and darks in an artwork
